The X-Men debuted in X-Men #1 in 1963. The first X-Men team composed of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel, and Beast.

The X-Men’s first school was based in Westchester, New York.

As a result, the new X-Men team was composed of an African woman (Storm,) a demonic-looking German (Nightcrawler,) a Canadian (Wolverine,) a Russian (Colossus,) and a Native American (Thunderbird.) This approach was an immediate success as the stories focused on the X-Men fighting hate-groups rather than aliens, robots, and locust people.
